Effective daily practices

There are simple things we can all do every day to help us feel better. Effective daily practices can make a big difference and it’s a lot easier to get going than you think. You just need to set aside some time.

To help you, I’ve listed some suggestions you can take on if they appeal to you:

Meditation

Meditation has helped people for thousands of years and it’s so easy to get started. You just need to make it a regular activity. I would aim to meditate every day, as you’re sure to notice a huge difference over time.

Reading

A line in Robin Sharma’s book, The Everyday Hero Manifesto really inspired me. He stated that the homes of the most successful people he’d met didn’t have many TV screens in them, but they had many, many books. It’s easy to forget what an amazing investment a book can be.

Unloading

Try getting everything out of your head and onto a piece of paper or a device. This will include ideas you’ve come up with, insights, things to do or frustrations. You just need to work out what works for you.

Being active

I think we should all aim to be active every day. Whether it’s a workout, or just simple movement, I’d aim for at least 20-30 minutes of activity if you can. It’s alarmingly easy to do nothing in the lives most of us live now. I’ve heard sitting referred to as ‘the new smoking’.

Spending time in nature

Deep down, we’re hard-wired to associate greenery with food sources, so we’ll naturally feel good around them. The Japanese came up with something interesting called Shinrin-yoku, or as it’s translated, ‘forest bathing’. You should try it.

Journaling

At the end of the day, take time to record and reflect on what happened. It can be very therapeutic. You can also look back later and learn some valuable lessons. It’s always great to have this with you.

If anything here appeals to you, I suggest you do these three easy things:

  • Make it a habit for at least 21 days

  • Carefully consider how you feel afterwards

  • Think about what else you could do

That’s it, you just need to go off and make this happen.
