The moment

How much time do you spend in the present moment? More importantly, what do you do to ensure you’re spending time in the present moment? Final question, if you’re not in the present moment, where are you?

Let’s take a moment to explore where we spend our time, where we focus our thoughts and what a difference it makes.

In case you’re confused, let’s take a look at where the mind often leads us. Spoiler, it’s not always the best place for us.

We can be in the past, reliving memories. They can often be negative, with replays of past criticism, conflicts and judgments playing on a loop. It’s like we’re experiencing them right now.

We can also be in the future, churning over things we fear. As Mark Twain once said “I've had a lot of worries in my life, most of which never happened.”

Although we often forget about it, there’s another place we can be. We can be in the present moment. We can focus our thoughts on what’s happening right now. The things that actually need our attention. The things we need to be concerned about.


To help you spend more time in the moment, here are three easy things you can do right now:

  • Just take time to notice when your mind isn’t where it needs to be.

  • Notice how it feels when you’re in the moment.

  • Get used to gently bringing your attention back to the moment when you need to.
